Who Am I?
My name is Alan Kaufmann. Though I grew up all over the country, I've spent most of my adult life in the Southwest U.S. From an early age I have been drawn to nature, and I've spent much of my life exploring, learning about and teaching about the outdoors. I currently work for a small non-profit doing habitat restoration and trail maintenance in the wild areas around Laguna Beach, CA, in addition to running this business.
I got in to selling knives because I got tired of not being able to find a replacement my Mora puukko every time I lost it. So I found a wholesaler and bought a bunch of them! I brought some to a primitive skills gathering, sold out in a few hours, and the rest is history.
I also study and teach the martial art of Kombatan Arnis, aka Filipino stick-and-knife fighting (which is why I carry martial arts and self-defense products).
Galapago means "turtle" in Spanish. I had a special encounter with a Hawksbill sea turtle in the Sea of Cortez during a very formative time in my life. I named my company after this turtle to continually remind me to slow down, move gracefully through my life, and be fearless.
